Dr. Barber is a board certified anesthesiologist who graduated from The College of Charleston, completed medical school at The Medical University of South Carolina, did her residency at Tulane University, and finished her fellowship at Harvard. She also was an assistant professor of Tulane University. During her training and career in academic medicine, she received several awards for clinical performance and teaching skills. Throughout her academic and private practice, she passionately pursued her interest in health, nutrition, exercise, and mind-body medicine. Further studies and certification in Age Management Medicine allow her to combine her unique interests and training to empower her patients to live vigorous, healthy lives at any age.

Dr. Barber offers an integrative approach to age management medicine while providing the patient with assessment of hormonal balance and overall health and disease risk. Her philosophy for successful aging includes maintaining energy, health and sexual vigor through shared responsibility of the patient-doctor team. Dr. Barber not only teaches her patients about hormonal balance, but practices such balance herself. She placed second in a masters figure competition after beginning an age management program and is a living example of the benefits of the program. She has been featured in profiles on television on News Channel 4 (an ABC affiliate) and in publications including The Charleston Mercury, The Senior Sun, The Charleston City Paper, The Charleston Regional Business Journal, and Vogue.

After several years of affiliation with Cenegenics Medical Institute, the association has grown into a partnership and the opening of Cenegenics Carolinas in April 2006. Dr. Barber is a Senior Partner with Cenegenics Medical Institute and was the first partner to open a Cenegenics center outside of the home office in Las Vegas. Still very active at the corporate level, Dr. Barber serves as the Physician Advisor for Cenegenics Living Online, an internet-based application where patients and staff can interact and closely follow each patient's progress. In addition, Dr. Barber is the Medical Editor of the Cenegenics Pharmacy Newsletter and is also the Medical Director of the Cenegenics Education and Research Foundation's Medical Library. She is a member of the advisory board for the Age Management Medicine Group and often presents at their conferences (held twice each year).

Dr. Barber is involved in and supports community outreach programs such as the Chamber of Commerce, Pet Helpers and Women Making a Difference. In 2006, Cenegenics Carolinas center received a nomination for the "Small Business of the Year" award from the Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Barber resides on the Isle of Palms with her husband, Robert Graf, and her two children, Lindsay and Cameron. She is also has three stepchildren who are all grown and living in Virginia and Charleston. Dr. Barber is a sports and fitness enthusiast who especially enjoys dance and golf as well as being a proud mother to two exceptional athletes.

Brian Miles, M.D.

Institue Physician

Dr. Miles came to Cenegenics Carolinas from Indianapolis, Indiana where he practiced family medicine for over 20 years. Additionally, Dr. Miles has been an integral member of the teaching staff for resident physicians at St. Francis Hospitals and Healthcare Centers in Indianapolis for almost as many years as he has been practicing. He attended Indiana University School of Medicine and is certified not only in Family Medicine, but also in Age Management Medicine (through the Cenegenics Education and Research Foundation and the Foundation for Care Management).

Dr. Miles has worked in preventative medicine his entire career. He has always believed that the healthiest patients take a proactive approach to their health and take responsibility for his/her own physical condition while seeking the guidance of experts to accomplish their unique goals. He strongly feels that the age management medicine approach offered by Cenegenics Carolinas emphasizes this integrative collaboration of patient and physician and has seen the success that this synergy can bring to each and every patient.

Dr. Miles is a strong believer in the Cenegenics program and practices what he preaches daily. He has a palpable passion for nutrition and nutraceutical supplementation. In that vein, he is an accomplished chef who enjoys spending time preparing beautiful and balanced meals (be on the lookout for some of his recipes to be featured on our facebook page and on our blog). Dr. Miles enjoys all types of exercise and prefers to stay active, whether it is riding his bike to work, lifting weights in a gym, kayaking on the weekends, or getting in a few rounds of tennis in the afternoons. He realizes that the body is a machine that should be finely tuned for optimal performance.

Dr. Miles is the father to 4 amazing children who live all over the United States. They are all successful in their own right and enjoy staying active and fit.

Marcela Vago Young, M.D.

Institute Physician

Dr. Young is passionate about using an integrative approach to treat her patients. She believes that wellness is more than just the absence of disease, but a delicate balance between physical, nutritional, emotional and spiritual well-being. Furthermore, she believes that by helping her patients understand the disease process and the factors involved in health maintenance she can successfully transfer the power of knowledge and ultimately place the patient in the driver's seat. Due to the tireless efforts of Dr. Young and her colleagues, Greenville, South Carolina is proud to claim the first Integrative Medicine facility at the Bon Secours Millennium Campus.

Dr. Young graduated from the University of Buenos Aires Medical School in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She completed an internship in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Miami School of Medicine and participated in extensive research and treatment at Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital. She went on to complete her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of West Virginia School of Medicine's Ohio Valley Medical Center and was named Chief Resident by her peers and professors. Dr. Young's professional interests include Internal Medicine, Age Management Medicine, Integrative Medicine, Preventive Medicine, Metabolic Disorders, and Endocrine Disorders. She has spent the majority of her professional career in Greenville, where she has practiced Internal Medicine since 1989. Dr. Young's philosophy was always a proactive one: beginning in a very traditional private practice and then opening her own practice, The Health and Preventative Medicine Center. She has served on various boards at St. Francis Hospital and has been published in publications including The Greenville News, The Greenville Journal, MD News, Greenville Magazine, The Chamber of Commerce, and Talk and Town magazines.

Dr. Young's passions for prevention and wellness drove her to continue her studies in Age Management Medicine. Throughout the process, she learned how to recognize and correct the abnormalities in the endocrine and metabolic systems that lead to the signs and symptoms of aging. This allows individuals not to stop the clock, but optimize this inevitable process. Dr. Young is board certified in Age Management Medicine through the Cenegenics Education and Research Foundation (CERF) and the Foundation for Care Management (FCM).

Dr. Young is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, the South Carolina Medical Association, and the Greenville County Medical Society. Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Dr. Young has lived and practiced Medicine in the United States since 1981 and currently lives with her husband in Greenville, South Carolina. Her three children - Alex, Dani and Erica - attend the College of Charleston and George Washington University Law School, respectively.
